Morpeth romped to a bonus point victory against a spirited Keighley outfit fresh from an outstanding win the previous week. This was an excellent performance from the Mitford Roaders as they continued to cement their place within the league .It also proved that when the going gets heavy the Morpeth forwards can be a match for any unit.
From the start Morpeth took the game to the visitors and Phillips who has proved a reliable replacement to Jinks, in kicking terms, was wide with a couple of penalties inside the first 10 minutes.
That gave the visitors the scope to advance with their backs causing problems to the home defence a decisive backs move created an overlap and converted try to give the visitors the lead.
It was then that Morpeth went towards the half time interval with 3 excellent tries none of which were converted.Firstly Forsythe who was the games outstanding forward buried from close range after good work down the short side by Francis and Turner.
Then from an excellent catch drive and rolling maul a further 5 points were added by the home side. Finally before the interval a Hornby break sent Parkinson over, who never put a foot wrong all afternoon.
The second half saw the home side controlling the game opting to kick and chase down the opposition another attacking lineout and drive saw the home side stretch to a 20- 7 lead. Then with 10 minutes to go Hornby with his now weekly interception raced over from 45 metres.
Phillips converted this try and added a penalty to make the final score 30-14,as Keighley managed a score of their own late on.
This match was well supported by The Class of 1975,teh result was a fitting end to an excellent club day.
