Morpeth RFC U12's - Tynedale 7's Success PDF Print E-mail
Morpeth U12's dominated the Tynedale 7's tournament on Sunday by playing superbly entertaining rugby and scoring 39 tries in their 5 games.  Teams from Northumberland, Durham, Cumbria and Yorkshire participated in the competition but the Mitford Road youngsters proved too strong for them all and lifted the cup after defeating Wharfedale in the final.  Earlier, Morpeth had topped their group having comfortably beaten Darlington Mowden Park and Tynedale and they went on to face Cockermouth in the quarter-final where a nine try romp put them through to the semis in which they destroyed a spirited Carlisle side.  In the final Wharfedale came out prepared to compete but the tempo of Morpeth's game proved too much for them and six unanswered first-half tries killed off the touring Yorkshire team's hopes.  Three further second-half tries along with two Wharfedale consolation scores saw a final result of 45-10.
This victory was just reward for the entire Under 12 squad who have worked particularly hard in recent weeks to ensure they are competitive in the end of season festivals. They round off the current campaign at Alnwick's tournament this week-end.
